Luther's Germany

This 10 day travel-study abroad is run in direct conjunction with HIS-282 "The Protestant Reformation."  Course material will be covered via lecture, slides and videos for the first 8 weeks term of the spring semester. At the end of the term (during AACC's Spring Break) students will then travel to Germany to visit the actual places where the Luther's Protestant revolution took place.

A Visit to Luther's Germany

Day 1 -- Flight to Frankfurt, Germany

Day 2 -- Arrive in Frankfurt. Walking tour of Frankfurt--home of Goethe and coronation site of the Holy Roman Emperors from 1562 to 1806.

Day 3 -- Transfer to Heidelber via Worms Reformation walk. Evening vespers in Heidelberg.

Day 4 -- Neckar Valley Excursion. Boat ride along the Neckar River with Old World castles with a visit to the 13th century Dlsberg Fortress. Return for guided tour of Heidelberg.

Day 5 -- Guided tour of Eisenach, home of Martin Luther and St. George's Church where he preached. On to Wartburg Castle, the hiding place of Luther and spot where he translated the first Protestant Bible.

Day 6 -- Morning tour of the University of Erfurt and the Augustinian Monastery. Afternoon depart for Halle.

Day 7 -- Morning tour of Eisleben, birthplace of Luther. Visit the church of St. Perter and Paul and St. Andrew's Church where Luther gave his last sermon. Return to Halle to visit the exhibit of Luther's personal effects.

Day 8 --Depart for Wittenberg to visit the Luther House and Museum, Castle Church and the Church of St. Mary. Depart for Berlin

Day 9 -- Tour of Berlin including remains of the Berlin Wall, the Soviet War Memorial, and Unter den Linden.

Day 10 -- Depart for USA


Cost
Price includes round-trip airfare; bus transportation; hotels stays (3-4 stars); breakfast and dinners; entrance to all sights on itinerary; and tour director.
