“Life is a lot like jazz…it’s best when you improvise.”  This sage observation was made by George Gershwin. AACC invites you to a unique music experience where you can learn a lot about jazz and a little bit about life.

Four Unforgettable Days of Jazz Classes It all starts with midday jazz clinics, each led by a renowned jazz musician. Students and guests will have the unique opportunity to listen to one of our top visiting artists discuss a specific jazz topic, ranging from performance tips to managing the business side. Following this insightful half-hour, students from AACC’s small jazz combo will perform a piece, then get first-hand musical advice from our guest musicians. These special classes are free and open to the public. Four Noteworthy Nights of Jazz That evening, the visiting artists will hold an unforgettable jazz performance on the Arnold campus of AACC. Each performance is $15 per person. Space is limited for these one-of-a-kind performances, so please order tickets for the four live performances well in advance. See these renowned jazz artists in special performances at the AACC Humanities building. Performances begin at 8 p.m. For ticket information please contact the box office at 410-777-2457. The series is sponsored by the Student Association and by Jazz Studies in the Music Department of AACC.

Preparing tomorrow’s musicians today

In addition to live performances, our visiting artists will join students for a memorable class experience and share their professional insights with the AACC small jazz combos. This is an unforgettable opportunity for students to get a personal understanding of each artist’s skill and inspiration. Each class runs from 3-4 p.m. in the John A. Cade Center for Fine Arts, room 224. Classes are free and open to the public.

About the Program

The World Class Jazz Series at AACC is sponsored by the Student Association and by Jazz Studies in the Music Department of AACC. This course of study prepares students for transfer to a four-year program and for real-world performance. Students study jazz history, jazz harmony, jazz improvisation and participate in applied lessons.
