World Languages Noncredit Certificate Program

Pathways to Proficiency

Today’s global economy has made learning a second or even third language more essential than ever before. AACC’s Pathways to Proficiency world languages series is ideal for government employees, defense contractors, business professionals, police, emergency and medical personnel, firefighters, airport and port security personnel, active duty military and family members, educators and others.

What is the job outlook?
Fluency in another language is essential for a variety of occupations and can help advance your career in others.

What is the training?
The Pathways to Proficiency world language series is a comprehensive, sequenced program designed to progressively improve practical, everyday foreign language skills at both the beginning and intermediate levels. Most languages are offered in a beginning and intermediate level and consist of four courses each that meet for 30 to 40 hours and focus on spoken language skills. Beginning level classes are offered in 11 languages: Arabic, Chinese, Farsi (Dari), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Pashto, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.  Intermediate level classes are offered in nine languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.

What courses will I take?
Visit www.aacc.edu/worldlanguage. Courses must be taken sequentially.

What credentials can I earn?
Upon successful completion students earn an AACC continuing education certificate. To receive the certificate students complete and submit the form to our office. The form and instructions can be found at www.aacc.edu/coned/certificates

What will it cost?
French, German, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish - $200 for Anne Arundel County residents, including tuition and fees
Arabic, Chinese, Farsi (Dari), Japanese, Pashto or Russian - $275 for Anne Arundel County residents, including tuition and fees

What are the requirements?
Students must be at least 16 years old.
