AMC 8 Math Competition
The American Mathematics Competition 8 (AMC 8) is a 25-question, 40-minute multiple choice examination in middle school mathematics.
The 33rd annual AMC 8 is open to all students in grades 8 or below and under 14.5 years of age on Nov. 14. It focuses on problems that can be solved using middle school mathematics concepts. The tests are free to participants, but preregistration by November 1, 2017 is required.
The AMC 8 aims to spur interest in mathematics and to develop talent through friendly competition at problem solving in a timed format. In 2016 more than 108,000 students from over 2500 schools participated in the AMC 8 competition.
Sponsored by The Mathematical Association of America, the competition is given across the United States, Canada and in many schools abroad. These competitions emphasize mathematical and logical reasoning rather than formulas and computation, so calculators are not allowed.
Details concerning the 2016 AMC competitions are available on the AMC website: www.maa.org/math-competitions. To register or obtain more information, contact Jim Hall in the AACC Mathematics Department, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
