AMS-211 Gender & Mass Media in US

Learn principles of contemporary mass media scholarship. Examine how media creates and perpetuates constructions of masculinity and femininity and how these constructions relate to race, ethnicity, class, sexuality and other variables of difference. Explore the political economy of media production, the relationship between media and ideology, and audience reception. Note: Also offered as GSS 211; credit is not given for both AMS 211 and GSS 211.
