Q. WHAT IS THE HISTORY OF THE AACC BRIDGE PROGRAM?
A. The college Black Student Success Team met several years ago to develop programs to support students who often come to school under–prepared based on their college placement scores, high school experience or may be the first in their family to complete college and who are enrolled in Anne Arundel Community College for the upcoming term. They developed this particular program to focus on issues related to Black/African American student achievement.
Q. WHAT IS THE SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM?
A. The Summer Bridge Program is a four-week long program that prepares incoming students for a comprehensive college experience that focuses on both academic and social success. This program was designed to serve the unique needs of African American students and with an emphasis on African American themes.
Q. WHAT DOES THE SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM OFFER?
A. The Summer Bridge Program is an academic review and academic support program that includes the following activities:

Students will work hard and play hard as they prepare for the school year.
Q. IN WHAT WAY CAN THE SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM BENEFIT ME?
A. Students meet faculty and staff who are committed to assisting them in the transition from high school through college. The program offers intensive English, reading, and math instruction to prepare for re-taking the college placement test. In addition to the academic portion, students will receive study strategies, life skills and academic support component that includes learning:
Students completing the program will be eligible for the Student Achievement and Success Program (SASP) and may qualify for up to $1,000 scholarship for the upcoming school year. To be eligible, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) enroll in 9 credits and take ACA 100 during the fall term. The students share learning experiences with students in the program from other high schools, especially benefiting students who may have little opportunity to socialize with peers from across the county.
Q. WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM?
A. Students need to be a recent high school graduate/GED and have completed the college's placement testing. Students must commit to the entire four-week program, be on time and attend daily.
Note: Students must attend, and parents are encouraged to accompany the student to a mandatory orientation session.
Q. IS THERE A COST TO THE STUDENT TO JOIN THE SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM?
A. The program is free. Lunch is provided and all supplies and expenses for campus and cultural trips are included.

Q. CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION ON THE SUMMER BRIDGE PROGRAM FROM MY SCHOOL/COUNSELOR?
A. Yes, Counselors have information.
Note: Students may get complete enrollment and participation requirements and preregister during their high school Personal Registration Days, conducted by AACC admission and academic advisors. Students also may preregister at the college at the following offices on the Arnold campus - Admissions, Academic Advising, Student Achievement and Success Program; or, at the Academic Advising offices at Arundel Mills, Glen Burnie Town Center and Fort Meade Army Education Center.
