Director's Biography - Center on Aging
AACC is pleased to introduce our new director of the Center on Aging: Terry Portis.
Dr. Terry Portis became director of the Center on Aging at Anne Arundel Community College on February 1, 2008. He is a graduate of Covenant College, received his master’s degree in Adult Education and a doctorate in counseling psychology from North Carolina A&T State University.
Dr. Portis has been a leader in education and human services for more than 15 years. He most recently served as executive director of the Hearing Loss Association of America. Prior to that he was president of the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina. Dr. Portis has also taught adult literacy and adult developmental education, and he frequently speaks at conferences and workshops across the country on topic such as human services and educational leadership, the personal dynamics of lifelong learning, and practical strategies for adjusting to significant life changes and challenges.
