Janet Haddock

I grew up in a house whose only color was rose beige. The carpet was rose beige, the upholstery was rose beige. The drapery was rose beige and the paint was rose beige. When I asked my mother why she never put any color into the house she said “By keeping it neutral I can add any color I want”. My mother only added color at Christmas.
I have always had a passion for art. Growing up in the Midwest on a farm in a rose beige environment gave me two valuable standards to live by. Appreciate the earth with all its inherent beauty and wonders, but realize that life is short, so color can make our time spent here a lot more pleasant. Art was not considered an essential course in my hometown of 700 residents, so I began my pursuit of a career in art and design after high school. I spent my first two years of college at Wayne State, a small teacher’s college located in Wayne, Nebraska. I transferred my junior year to Iowa State University graduating with a BA in Interior Design.
My varied life experiences include raising and showing cattle for 8 years in 4-H, (By the way, it paid for my first year of college) bicycling across Iowa TWICE, traveling to 5 foreign countries, over 35 of our states, having two incredible kids, and marrying a guy that is as great as my father was. My husband, Scott, moved his company from San Jose, California to Prince Frederick, Maryland 2 years ago, so that is how I came to live here. I firmly believe that there are no coincidences, and from a series of events after attending a birthday party, I found myself on the receiving end of a phone call from Dimitra Tangires last spring. After many interviews, I am pleased to be a part of the Anne Arundel Community College team.
I have many interests. I love to play sports more than watch them on TV, and though I am not competition level in anything anymore, I can play respectfully well at golf, tennis, racquetball, softball, biking, and skiing. I seriously collect and make Christmas décor, and can hold my own with my culinary skills. I travel whenever possible.
