Welcome to Pioneer Women's Softball!
We play a competitive schedule against regional community colleges at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III level and in the MD JUCO conference.
Congratulations 2013 Pioneers!
Led by first-year Coach Renee Ferguson, the 2013 softball team won the NJCAA D3 Region/District Championship, finished in eighth place at the national championship in Rochester Minn., and were an NJCAA All-Academic Team.
Coach Ferguson worked hard to organize a competitive team, taking the helm only weeks before the start of the season. A good core of women turned out for an organizational meeting, and with the help of returning assistant Coach Ron Baker she steered the team to a successful season. Besides the experience of going to the national tournament the team will have some wonderful memories, including volunteering to help build a home with Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake, holding the first Pioneers Softball Fan Day, and even doing the Harlem Shuffle at a home game with Westchester Community College.
Returning sophomore Shelby Smith was the top hitter for the Pioneers with a .409 average, and tied for fourth in the nation with 10 home runs. She was honored at the annual athletics awards ceremony with the Truxal Award as an outstanding female in the graduating class.
