School of Continuing and Professional Studies

Anne Arundel Community College’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies (CAPS) oversees all noncredit continuing education courses and programs as well as two institutes—The Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Tourism (HCAT) Institute and the Teacher Education and Child Care (TEACH) Institute. The continuing education offerings include a diverse array of personal enrichment, adult education, ESL and job training courses as well as continuing education certificate programs. 

Rest assured that the School of Continuing and Professional Studies is committed to providing the most current instruction taught by highly credentialed and experience teachers. We strive to schedule courses at the most convenient times including days, evenings, weekends and online, and  we do everything we can to keep tuition and fees as affordable as possible.

Center on Aging

Center on Aging oversees LifeStages courses designed for anyone in midlife and beyond. The Guild for LIFE combines lecture and tours to local sites, and Peer Learning Partnership is a self-directed learning group that studies and discusses a variety of topics. Senior courses are for those 55 and older and are held on the Arnold campus and at county senior centers.

Continuing Professional Education

Courses focus on career advancement and professional development , certification and licensure in fields such as business management, environmental education, health care, human resources, insurance, landscape design and real estate. 

English Language Learning and Adult Education

Adult education courses provide basic reading, writing, math and G.E.D. preparation courses.  English as a Second Language (ESL) courses from basic to advanced prepare students for credit studies and assist those with degrees from other countries. Intensive Pathways to Proficiency language courses help students master Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian or Spanish for their jobs.

Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Tourism Institute

The HCAT Institute offers credit degree and certificate programs in hospitality management, hotel/lodging management, and culinary, arts as well as continuing professional education training, customized contract training and noncredit courses for amateur cooks, event planners and wine lovers. 

Lifelong Learning

The office of Lifelong Learning offers personal enrichment courses in cultural arts, fitness, recreation, personal finance and more to adults and Women’s Institute courses for women. Students as young as 18 months old can take courses through Kindermusik, Kids in College, EXPLORE and Middle School Scholars. 

Occupational Skills

The office of Occupational Skills provides job training courses in the construction trades of carpentry, electrical wiring, plumbing, HVAC maintenance and repair and welding. Additional job training is available in truck driving (cdl licensing) cable technician, power plant operations and more.

Teacher Education and Child Care Institute

The TEACH Institute offers credit degrees, certificates and letters of recognition in teaching and child care, as well as licensure courses and professional development for teachers and child care providers. The Parenting Center provides courses in parenting.

Technology Training

From basic keyboarding to advanced technology certifications, AACC’s Office of Technology Training has courses for beginners, techies and industry professionals.

Instructional Support Center

The School of Continuing and Professional Studies Instructional Support Center oversees noncredit registration, instructional contracts, room assignments and other instructional support.
