AACC Youth Dance Instruction Program

The Youth Dance Instruction program ("YDI") strives to offer unique opportunities for young dancers to experience a supportive, noncompetitive learning environment that has brought Anne Arundel Community College such high regard.

We provide a healthy learning environment and focus on the students' ability to advance their knowledge, appreciation and ability in dance. Students are given the opportunity to discover and develop their talents, energy, and interest to pursue their unique potential as dancers.

Hip Hop class 2009
Youth Dance Instruction: Dancers in hip hop class.

The Youth Dance Instruction program is designed to focus on students ages four to seventeen. Enrollment is limited as the program is designed to ensure reasonably sized classes and a high degree of individual attention.

The students will gain knowledge to develop and learn various dance techniques, styles, and dance-related activities. The thrust of the program is strictly educational, geared toward improving technique. Level of ability will be determined by the instructors of the YDI at the beginning of each session and the students will be placed accordingly.

COURSES:

  • Creative Movement I (ages 4-5): movement exploration, playing with rhythms
  • Creative Movement II (ages 6-7): further development of movement and rhythm exploration, and improvisation exercises as they relate to dance.
