The Entrepreneurial Studies Institute (ESI)
According to a study conducted by the Small Business Administration, only 39.5 percent of companies make it to their sixth year. What is just as important is that between 70 to 80 percent of all business in a given year are classified by the Small Business Administration as Small Business. Small businesses generate the largest portion of new jobs in the US and have since World War II. At AACC we believe that by providing a comprehensive education experience that includes business and community partners we can help our students beat the odds and contribute to the local and national economies. We also recognize the increasing impact the Small Business Community has on the Global Economy due to advances in Information Technology.
One of the needs AACC is addressing through ESI is creating flexibility and easy access for their students. They can choose the courses that meet their needs, when they want, in the format they want. This includes credit and noncredit, a combination of both or they may choose to attend any of the many workshops offered.

The Entrepreneurial Studies Institute clearly supports the college’s mission of providing individuals with the opportunity to discover and develop their talents, energy and interests, to pursue their unique potentials and to achieve an intellectually, culturally and economically satisfying relationship with society. Such opportunity is easily available and readily accessible to Anne Arundel County residents through various ESI programs.
In addition to the current credit courses and programs, we also offer a noncredit entrepreneurship training program. An Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree, Entrepreneurial Studies Certificate, and internship/practicum program are available to meet your educational needs and goals.
ESI also has a Business Knowledge Resource Center and student business incubator (known on campus as the Hatchery). Students have access to the latest computer technology and software applications along with an up to date business resource reference library. Additionally, business advising is available by appointment in the adjacent meeting space.
The Institute is proud to offer a comprehensive scholarship program through the Philip E. and Carole R. Ratcliffe Foundation.
