applied foresight ... using the perspective
Preventing youth violence is essential. This U.S. Center for Disease Control website presents prevention strategies and other important information. In the National Science Foundation Report entitled Youth Violence: What We Need to Know, the authors focus on gun violence and discuss the contributing factors. Among these are “access to guns, exposure to violent media,” and a number of other factors. Significantly, they discuss the importance of the cumulative effect of the various risk factors.

Future climate change will impact the availability of water, our food security, and many other aspects of our lives and our world. This U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) webpage shows key projections, several scenarios, and a slide show explaining how climate modeling works. Human activities are leading to increasing levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. These gases hold in heat, leading to an increasing average global temperature. In turn, this leads to changes which impact climate. The EPA website includes an interactive Individual Greenhouse Gas Emissions Calculator. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) tracks the “vital signs of the planet” – carbon dioxide, global temperature, arctic sea ice, land ice, and sea level, which all point to predictions of climate change. The NASA site includes a consensus page summarizing the assessments of many scientific societies. Some of the latest research studies are available at the online site of the journal Nature Climate Change. Some information is free to all readers, and some requires a subscription.
