Social networking may become key in critical problem solving for some situations. Recently the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) challenged participants to find 10 red balloons at undisclosed locations across the United States. The purpose of the challenge was to explore the role of social networking to solve time-critical, wide-scoped problems. The challenge was won by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology team in less than nine hours after the launch! More information is on the DARPA Network Challenge website.
