Can robots be helpmates and playmates at home? Here is a short video and interactive transcript by Cynthia Breazeal, a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who is building robots with social intelligence.

The United States Global Change Research Program (USGCRP)  built a set of scenarios to facilitate the investigation of the potential consequences of climate variability and change. The scenarios included climate change, ecosystem change, and socioeconomic changes. Providing plausible alternative futures can help us to examine important issues. The resulting scenario report is the US National Assessment of the Potential Consequences of Climate Variability and Change.

Next Generation Learning Challenges (NGLC) is a collaborative, multi-year grant program aimed at dramatically increasing college readiness and completion through applied technology. NGLC is led by EDUCAUSE, a nonprofit association which has an extensive Resource Center with helpful material on techology and innovation in learning. Interested in a course on the future for college credit?
Check our Exploring the Future (FTR /BPA /SOC 105) course listing. This is a 3 credit-hour General Education course which also satisfies the diversity requirement. Spring Term registration is now over, but Summer and Fall Term registration will be available starting in late March for both online and face-to-face classes.

Registration is now open for the WorldFuture 2011 Conference "Moving from Vision to Action", which will be July 8 - 10 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This is the annual conference of the World Future Society.
