Microfinance provides impoverished people access to an array of banking services. Perhaps most importantly, it provides access to small loans in order to establish businesses. Muhammad Yunus, an economist and winner of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, has been a leading proponent of microfinance.  The Microplace website features information about the history of microfinance, ongoing discussions about its effectiveness, and ways to invest in a project. The Microfinance Gateway website is an interactive resource for people to learn , share ideas, and improve access to financial resources.

Climate justice links the ideals of global social justice with the serious agricultural and other problems caused by ongoing climate change. The impacts of global warming and its associated climate change are particularly serious for impoverished or indigenous people living in low lying areas, high altitude areas, or circumpolar regions. The Mary Robinson Foundation - Climate Justice provides a forum to develop sustainable policies globally. The website of the Climate Change, Agricultural and Food Security Research Program (Denmark) provides a wealth of information on research and programs, and features a 6 minute film entitled "How to Feed the World in 2050". This National Wildlife Federation site gives additional information about stresses induced by climate change. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN website addresses ways to minimize the negative impacts of climate change and offers a free online course (or CD-ROM) about it. This master's thesis from Humboldt State University examines the interrelations of social issues.
