Unfortunately, food shortages are a reality in many places. The United Nations World Food Programme is working with dedication to prevent these shortages from becoming the way of the future. This WFP Web site has current information, strategies, and ways individuals can help.

Scientists are noticing increasing occurrences of allergies, particularly among children. A number of factors are under investigation. One of these is the effect of increasingly 'clean' environments, which may interfere with the normal maturation of the immune system. In this report on the Center for Disease Control Web site, there is a discussion of an apparent relationship between the prevalence of antibacterial products and increasing allergies. Similarly, this about.com Web site contrast the modern 'hygenic' environment with the rural past in relation to the development of the immune system.

Future Students in Washington, D.C.
This July, students of a special section of FTR-100, "Exploring the Future", will participate at the World Future Society Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. Offered by Anne Arundel Community College, FTR-100 is a 3 credit-hour general education college course. Registration is now open for this section, as well as for the totally online section.

Register for noncredit futures modules
Ffor professional development or personal enrichment, these online modules may be taken alone or in combination. These modules are suitable for employers or educators looking for some background information in order to introduce their employees or students to futuring.
