applied foresight... using the perspective
USAID joins the international community in working toward gender equality and the empowerment of women through a number of projects and priorities. These projects aim to unlock human potential by preventing gender-based violence, increasing access to a safe education, and improving access to health services and information. Ultimately, achieving these goals will improve the quality of life for everyone through increased food productivity, greater economic opportunity, and better health. In conjunction with this, the United Nations Assembly declared October 11, 2012, as the First International Day of the Girl Child. USAID and the international community joined in 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence from November 25 - December 10, 2012.

Now there is an improved invisibility cloak, owing to recent refinements in the fabrication of the "meta-material" of the cloak. This research work at Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering has effectively reduced the occurrences of reflections from the cloak, a significant improvement to the original cloaking device reported by Duke in 2006. This research is opening the door to the new field of transformational optics, and may ultimately have application in fiber optics as well.
