Graphene is a nanomaterial with notable physical and electrical properties, which may find applications in a number of fields. Recently,  scientists at the London Centre for Nanotechnology reported developing a new electronic state of graphene, which perhaps will lead to a new way to encode binary information.

The discovery that individual layers of graphene could be isolated from graphite earned the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics for Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov of the University of Manchester.

The ideals of social justice - which value the dignity of every human being- are fostered by the Human Rights Programme of UNESCO. A particular focus is education for children in need.

Personal privacy concerns have entered uncharted territory with the information stored through electronic social networking, the vulnerability of smart phones to cyber attacks, and the location-based tracking enabled by smart phone usages. Some of the issues are outlined in this summary of the testimony from the Federal Trade Commission to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.
