Baking and Pastry Cook

Gain entry-level employment in a bake shop or pastry shop, such as a wholesale club, grocery store or even privately-owned bakery with this noncredit continuing education training program. Learn the basic skills in baking and pastry production, including cake production and decorating techniques. This training is offered through AACC’s Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism (HCAT) Institute which provides both credit and noncredit coursework that lead to industry certifications.

What is the job outlook?
Employment opportunities will continue to be good because of the need to replace experienced workers who transfer to other occupations or leave the labor force despite little to no change growth in this industry. What is the training?
Training consists of three noncredit courses taken concurrently which meet for four weeks. Classes are held in the Humanities Building Culinary Lab on the Arnold campus. Emphasis is placed on basic baking skills and pastry techniques, including exposure to convenience baking products. Students will gain experience with proper cake decorating techniques. Total Hours: 116

CLN-321 - Cake Production and Decorating Techniques
HCT-333 - Certification in Sanitation

What  credentials can I earn?
Upon successful completion, students earn an AACC continuing education certificate. To receive the certificate students complete and submit the form to our office. The form and instructions can be found at www.aacc.edu/coned/certificates

What will it cost?
$1,500 for Anne Arundel County residents, including tuition and fees

What are the requirements?
Students must be at least 16 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Students must also wear a uniform – white chef coat, scarf, apron, checkered kitchen pants, black closed toe shoes and chef hat.
