Completers of Meet the Military Learner and Kognito’s Veterans on Campus Online are invited to the Bunker Network.
The Bunker Network is a community of administrators, faculty, and staff who actively advocate for military/veteran student equity on campus. Bunker Network training is offered to faculty, staff and interested students throughout the institution to become knowledgeable about issues faced by military-affiliated students and the resources available to assist them. All members of the network will complete two training sessions, Meet the Military Learner classroom seminar and online Veterans on Campus training from Kognito. The Meet the Military Learner seminar is AACC specific intended to provide an overview of some of the unique needs and stressors that can impact the learning of active duty military, veterans, reservists, military spouses or family members. This training offers AACC resources to better serve our military/veteran students.
Kognito’s Veterans on Campus for Faculty & Staff is an online, interactive training program that helps faculty and staff learns about the needs and experiences of student veterans.
Bunker Network training discusses (1) the unique value veterans bring to campus, (2) obstacles they may face in their pursuit of a college degree, (3) effective techniques for managing classroom discussions around topics that may be sensitive to veterans, and (4) best practices for connecting student veterans exhibiting signs of psychological distress with support. Participants will receive an AACC Bunker Network certificate and door sign that will let students and other members of the AACC community know that their office is a safe place for military/veteran students. The Bunker training sessions will help members learn about military/veteran community and the special needs associated with this community.
