The Center for Workforce Solutions at Anne Arundel Community College is partnering with the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., to conduct Command Spanishâ language training for the hospital nursing staff.
Command Spanish® is a customized Spanish language and cross-cultural program for non-Spanish-speaking individuals who interact every day with Spanish speakers in the workplace. The program teaches English-speaking employees to communicate with Spanish-speaking co-workers, clients and customers in key phrases and words that are relevant to their specific occupation, such as in hotels and restaurants, in health care clinics, physicians’ offices and hospitals or on construction sites.
The Center for Workforce Solutions began Command Spanishâ for nursing training in November 2005.
"This program allows the hospital to continue to provide superior patient care to all of our Washington residents" said Karl Schoffstall Sr., training specialist at the Washington Hospital Center. "Command Spanishâ allows us to quickly get to the heart of the communication between our staff and our Hispanic patients. It is very rewarding to see the smiles on our client’s faces when our nurses communicate in Spanish."
The not-for-profit Hospital Center in northwest Washington, D.C., is the largest private hospital in the nation’s capital.
The Center for Workforce Solutions is the exclusive provider of the Command Spanish® program in Washington, D.C. The center already has been successful with the program in the hospitality, health care and construction industries in Maryland, and will provide the same services to businesses and organizations in Washington, D.C.
