AACC Trustees Approve New Certification Program

March 10, 2006

Education

The Anne Arundel Community College Board of Trustees has approved a new retail management certification program to meet the region’s insatiable demand for retail workers and managers.

If approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), the Certificate in Retail Management program will be offered in the 2007 spring term. Harford and Howard community colleges are the only two community colleges in Maryland to offer a similar program.

Students in the Certificate of Retail Management program will be required to complete a course series totaling 18 units of six courses -- four principle classes and two electives -- spread over two academic terms.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the retail industry continues to experience a high job turnover rate as well as demand for increased formal education, as opposed to on-the-job training. Next door to more than 200 retailers at Arundel Mills, the AACC at Arundel Mills campus is an ideal location to host students in this program. Once graduates complete the program, they will be prepared to enter the retail field with skills to achieve success and promotion to management in small and medium-sized businesses.

For program information, call 410-777-AACC (2222).
