AACC President Named to National Board of Directors

The Arundel Community College President Martha A. Smith, Ph.D., was recently elected to the board of directors of the American Council on Education (ACE).
She is serving a three-year term through February 2010. Founded in 1918, ACE members and associates include 1,800 accredited, degree-granting colleges and universities and higher education-related associations, organizations, corporations and international subscribers.
Smith also serves on the board of directors of the League for Innovation in the Community College. She is a charter member of the Educational Testing Service's National Community College Advisory Council and a member of the Maryland Education Council, which represents the state on the national Education Commission of the States.
President of AACC since 1994, Smith received the 2006 District Pacesetter of the Year Award from the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations (NCMPR).
She earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Chemistry from Slippery Rock State University, a Master of Education in Educational Psychology from University of Hawaii and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Higher Education Administration from University of Northern Colorado.
