Eight faculty members at Anne Arundel Community College will receive awards for teaching excellence May 20 through 23 at the 29th annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence in Austin, Texas.
The National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development recognizes more than 1,000 professors nationwide at its annual conference for their outstanding service and teaching excellence.
The eight AACC recipients are:
Lyndele C. Bernard of Chester, associate professor of nursing;
Steven B. Canaday, Ph.D., of Severna Park, assistant professor of English;
Patricia A. Gregory of Davidsonville, professor of computer science;
Catherine A. Hess of Arnold, professor of mathematics;
Brenda L. Hurbanis, Ed.D., of Ellicott City, assistant professor and chair of teacher education;
Susanne R. Markowski of Columbia, associate professor of computer information systems;
Richard A. Niewerth of Severna Park, professor of visual arts; and
Beth A. Potter of New Freedom, Pa., associate professor of human services.
Award winners receive pewter medallions. Founded in 1978,
NISOD encompasses more than 700 community colleges throughout the United States and Canada and more than 200 small rural colleges worldwide. NISOD is part of the Community College Leadership Program at the University of Texas in Austin.
