Education
Now is the perfect time to get a head start on your application for financial aid for 2007-2008 classes at Anne Arundel Community College or to check what assistance remains for students taking spring credit and noncredit classes.
To apply for student loans or federal and state grants or AACC-based scholarships, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For additional information and links to the online FAFSA visit www.aacc.edu/aid/applyfafsa.cfm, or turn to AACC Student Financial Services for help.
The deadline to apply for Maryland state aid for the 2007-2008 academic year is March 1. Most private scholarships have deadlines in January, February or March, making now the best time to start working on your application.
AACC Scholarships
Groups, individuals and organizations have established AACC scholarships that may still have money to award for the spring 2007 term. You must complete two applications: the FAFSA and an AACC online application. Visit www.aacc.edu/aid/scholarships.cfm for more information. Priority deadlines are June 1, 2007 for fall 2007 classes and Nov. 1, 2007 for spring 2008 classes.
Grants, Work-Study Funds
Most grants and federal work-study funds are only available to students who demonstrate financial need. The Federal Work-Study Program helps students earn money for school expenses through targeted on-campus job placement with AACC.
Loans
Student loans are available to students with or without financial need, but you must file a FAFSA by the specified deadline and meet the general eligibility requirements. Those who show financial need may qualify for a Subsidized Stafford Loan, which is interest free during school for students who meet the enrollment criteria. The Unsubsidized Stafford Loan does not require financial need, but isn’t interest free during school.
