Jan. 22, 2007

Dance

Winter’s arrival has set off a flurry of three new one-session noncredit continuing education dance classes at Anne Arundel Community College to keep you warm until spring.

Get your toes tingling with the hot January offering, “Latin Dance Flurries” (DAN 370), featuring the merengue, salsa, rumba and cha-cha. The $55 class meets 10 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, to learn and practice steps to these dances.

February brings “Swing Dance Flurries” (DAN 371) with a focus on East Coast swing, Lindy Hop basics and tricks and West Coast swing. The $45 class meets 10 a.m.-1:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24.

Wrap up the winter’s new dance offerings with “Ballroom Dance Flurries” (DAN 372). Enhance your ballroom repertoire with the smooth fox trot, waltz, Argentine tango and cha-cha in this $55 class. Learn and practice the basics from 10 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Saturday, March 31.

All three classes take place on the Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway. Leading the classes is instructor Lauri Petroy of Annapolis, who is a member of the Ballroom Dance Company. She has taught dance for more than 10 years and continues to take classes and attend workshops at national dance competitions.

These classes are among 24 offered this spring for adults ages 16 and up. Other topics include belly dancing, ballet, line dancing, wedding reception dances, improvisation and modern dance. Seven dance classes for youth grades 2-10 cover a variety of styles from hip hop and break dancing to Irish dance and creative movement.

Registration is under way online and by phone, fax, mail and in person. For information call 410-777-2325 or go online to www.aacc.edu/noncredit for registration details and to www.aacc.edu/dancing for a complete list of noncredit continuing education spring dance classes for adults and youth.
