The IKO Foundation Inc., a charitable foundation in Edgewater, has donated $100,000 to establish scholarship funds at Anne Arundel Community College and contributed to a student emergency fund.
The college plans to award 25 scholarships of $1,000 each toward students’ fall and spring tuition.
“This generous contribution will impact more than two dozen students this academic year,” said AACC President Martha Smith, Ph.D. “We are particularly grateful that the IKO Foundation is assisting students facing unique challenges in this economy. The funds will help them with their short-term financial needs so they can stay in school.”
Thirteen scholarships will go to active duty military, veterans and their family members. Twelve scholarships will go to civilian students who are South County residents. All of the scholarships will be awarded with a preference to students pursuing studies in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.
The IKO Foundation is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
