AACC Closes Siegert Field, Running Track for Summer

June 2, 2010
Education

Anne Arundel Community College has closed Siegert Field and the walking/running track for the summer as part of an Athletic Facilities Renovation project.

Both are scheduled to reopen in August in time for the start of fall classes; the field is home to the AACC men’s and women’s soccer and lacrosse teams during the academic year and rented by outside groups for sports and community activities.

As an alternative this summer, community residents are welcome to walk the perimeter of the campus parking lots. Wooded hiking trails are open behind parking lots A and B, between parking lot H and College Parkway or between the east and west sides of campus. Or, check out a map of the paved route of the annual 5K Turkey Trot available online.PDF

The project scope includes removal of the natural grass, excavation, backfill and installation of drainage systems and artificial turf, placement of sleeved inserts for a future safety net system, resurfacing and modifying the existing running and walking track and installation of a new 48-inch chain link fence. The field design meets National Junior College Athletic Association standards and will allow increased use as well as play after inclement weather.
