Trio Earns Emeritus Status at AACC

Sept. 24, 2010

The Board of Trustees of Anne Arundel Community College has awarded emeritus status to three recently retired long-term faculty members.

Those receiving the honor are Richard Faircloth of Alexandria, Va., professor of biology emeritus; Norma Hamilton of Williamsburg, Va., professor of nursing emeritus and Richard Niewerth of Severna Park, professor of art emeritus. Faircloth served the college for more than 35 years, Hamilton for 28 years and Niewerth for 39 years.

The faculty emeritus honor is awarded to retired or retiring professors who provide a minimum of 20 years of service and make significant contributions to the college. Nominations originate with an individual’s chairman or director and go through a series of screenings until they reach the president, who makes a recommendation to the trustees. Faculty emeriti retain faculty privileges such as use of the library, recreational facilities, a campus mailing address and mailbox, admission to events at the faculty rate and the opportunity to continue teaching as a distinguished senior lecturer.
