New HCAT Scholarship at AACC Honors Justin Raddie

July 20, 2011
Education

The community is invited to join family and friends of the late Justin Paul Raddie in funding a new scholarship in his name set up to benefit Anne Arundel Community College Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism Institute (HCAT) students.

The Justin Paul Raddie HCAT Scholarship Fund established by his family and friends will go to a student who demonstrates financial need as determined by the AACC Financial Aid office, with preference given to a U.S. citizen with a passion for and seeking a career in culinary arts. Applicants must have a 2.5 minimum grade point average.

Raddie, 28, the son of Crofton community leaders Madonna Brennan and the stepson of Robert Brennan, died Jan. 16. Enrolled in AACC’s HCAT program, he worked in an Edgewater restaurant for several years.

“It isn’t the dates on the tombstone that matter, but what one does with the dash in between,” his mother told an audience of donors and scholarship recipients recently.

“Justin would help anyone, anytime,” she said. “He lived life to the fullest. This scholarship will help him live on in others. Justin would be proud to know he would be helping others like him who love culinary arts.”

To contribute to the scholarship or for information, contact the AACC Foundation Inc. at 410-777-2515 or foundation@aacc.edu or visit www.aacc.edu/foundation.
