History Lectures/Tours of Gettysburg, Arlington

      Anne Arundel Community College invites the community to join upcoming one-day lecture/tour excursions to Gettysburg and to Arlington National Cemetery.

      First up is the Saturday, Nov. 5, educational tour “Gettysburg in a Day” (HRY 312-901) led by Lester Brooks, Ph.D., AACC professor of history. Follow the Confederate and Union armies through the most important battle of the Civil War. Learn about Pickett’s Charge and the actions of Ewell and Longstreet. The day includes stops at significant locations in Gettysburg National Military Park. During a lunch break (lunch not included), participants select a local restaurant for dining.

      Transportation is via college van. Participants meet in parking lot A of the Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway, between 9-9:30 a.m. the return is set for approximately 4 p.m. The class cost, including transportation, is $47 for county residents.

      “Arlington National Cemetery – Shrine to America’s Heroes” (HST 307-901) splits the lecture and trip, with the presentation on Thursday, Nov. 10, and tour on Nov. 12. George Sweger, an AACC instructor, will discuss the history of the cemetery and notable veterans and dignitaries interred there. Learn about the changing of the guard and the Kennedy gravesite.

      On Saturday, Nov 12, participants meet between 8:30-9 a.m. at the Arnold campus to travel by college van. Bring a bagged lunch, wear sturdy walking shoes and dress for the weather. The return is scheduled for approximately 4 p.m. The class cost of $76 for county residents includes transportation.
