Advisory Board to Support Business-College Partnerships to Build Future Talent Pool
Arnold, Md. – Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) has been named to a new national advisory board created to form a dialogue with and build successful strategic partnerships between national business leaders and higher education institutions.
Corporate Voices for Working Families launched the Community College Advisory Board at the STEMtech conference in Indianapolis organized by the League for Innovation in the Community College.
Andrew L. Meyer, Ed.D., vice president of learning at AACC and the college’s representative on the new board, said that the Community College Advisory Board will be a forum where higher education and national business leaders can interact, learn and share best practices on solutions that provide working students with the skills and education needed to succeed in the 21st century.
Meyer, who is both the chief academic officer and the chief continuing education officer for AACC, has been involved in national conversations about workforce training for more than two decades. The Baltimore resident has served in leadership roles on the boards of the National Council for Continuing Education and Training, the Global Corporate College and is the AACC representative for the League for Innovation in the Community College. More locally, he is active in the Fort Meade Alliance, the Anne Arundel County BRAC Task Force and the Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation.
Corporate Voices created the Community College Advisory Board as part of its Learn and Earn initiative, which seeks to identify, promote and encourage innovative partnerships between employers and higher education institutions to help today’s working students complete their postsecondary education while working.
“Today, there is a national economic imperative for higher education and industry to collaborate to better prepare workers with skills that have labor market value,” said Meyer. “The Community College Advisory Board will play a valuable role in sustaining and growing these partnerships.”
Learn and Earn partnerships that promote student success help to enhance the competitiveness of the U.S. workforce, close the national skills gap and put workers on meaningful educational and career pathways.
