Take time to smell the exotic flowers of Hawaii and join fellow gardeners on a Thursday, March 8, Anne Arundel Community College bus trip to the Philadelphia International Flower Show. The show is considered the top gardening event of its kind in the world.
“Hawaii: Gardens of Aloha” will showcase the exceptional talent of professional growers, florists and landscape designers who force a variety of unusual plants into bloom for the 10-acre exhibit space at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. According to event planners, more than 2,000 entries are expected in 580 artistic and horticultural classes ranging from miniature settings to pressed plants.
This year’s March 4-11 show includes one of the largest ever displays of orchids. Approximately 150 international and U.S. vendors will also sell plants, flowers, orchids, sheds, furniture, artwork and garden-related crafts and supplies.
The bus leaves the Arnold campus in the parking lot by the Barn at 8:30 a.m. and will return around 5:30 p.m. Lunch is on your own. Cost is $69 for Anne Arundel County residents. Register in advance for the noncredit, continuing education class “Philadelphia Flower Show” (INT 348) at www.aacc.edu/recreg or by calling 410-777-2325.
