AACC STEM Center Director Honored as Distinguished Citizen
Richard Cerkovnik, Ph.D., director of the Anne Arundel Community College Regional Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Center, received the Maryland Association of Nonpublic Special Education Facilities (MANSEF) 2012 Distinguished Citizen Award at its June 4 meeting.
The award is presented annually to a person or organization that has demonstrated vision and leadership in working with Maryland’s special needs children.
Cerkovnik, an Ellicott City resident, was nominated by Linda Jacobs, Ed.D., executive director of the Harbour Schools, for his leadership and commitment of time, energy, ideas and resources in curriculum guidance and staff training for some of the schools’ STEM initiatives. The Harbour Schools’ mission is to provide supportive, caring and individualized education to children with learning disabilities, autism, speech language impairment or other disabilities.
