Five students will vie for cash, free office space and accounting services, a $10,000 scholarship and a year’s worth of free mentoring, networking and business advice in the 11th annual Business Plan Competition May 1 at Anne Arundel Community College.
The students’ presentations for a new or proposed business or organization begin at 9 a.m. and will be given before a panel of area business representatives who will question them much as investors do in a real business situation. The public and members of the business community are welcome to attend the event in the Cade Center for Fine Arts Room 219.
Open to all students, the competition draws a large number of entries, but only the finalists can make a pitch for their businesses. This year’s contenders and their businesses are Melanie Adams, Bearer Publications; Mark Covington, Aperture Security Corp.; Ethan Dietrich, SixGen, LLC; Traci McNeil, Crossing Currents Aquatics; and Devin Smith, NuSkware.
Sponsored by Capital One Bank, the winner receives a cash prize donated by Capital One Bank, a year’s space in the AACC Student Business Incubator complete with mentoring and business advising and coaching, a $10,000 Ratcliffe Scholarship, free accounting services and networking opportunities
