Course Descriptions
NUR-100 - Patient Care Technician 1 (PCT)
- Six credits, one term; 45 lecture hours, 30 lab hours, and 60 clinical practice hours.
- Prepares those with no previous allied health work or educational experience to work as a patient care technician (PCT) in an area hospital or as a geriatric nursing assistant (GNA) in an extended-care facility.
NUR-103 - Patient Care Technician 2 (PCT)
- Six credits, one term; 37.5 lecture hours, 50 lab hours, 60 clinical practice hours.
- Offers more advanced skills and additional supervised clinical experience to prepare student for work as an advanced-level technician in area hospitals.
- Prerequisite: NUR 100 within the past two years or, if longer than two years, proof of current practice in the field and permission of the nursing department.
NUR-101 - Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA)
- Five credits, one term; 40 lecture hours, 30 lab hours, 40 clinical practice hours.
- Prepares those with no previous experience for jobs as geriatric nursing assistants in extended-care facilities and home care.
