Health, Fitness and Exercise Studies - A.S. Degree

The Health, Fitness and Exercise Associate of Science degree program is designed for students interested in pursuing professional training, transferring to a four-year institution, or gaining personal enrichment in a health, fitness, or exercise related field.

This program will give you a foundation for various career options:

  • Personal Trainer
  • Pre-athletic training
  • Exercise specialist for public, private, educational and governmental organizations

Award

  • Associate of Science degree, A.S.

Program Requirements

  • Consult with an academic adviser to ensure the most effective choice of courses to prepare for transferring to a four-year institution.
  • Elective credits must be chosen with the approval of the department chair or program coordinator.

Degree Requirements

  • Minimum of 62 credit hours
  • Refer to the general education degree requirements section in the college catalog to ensure that diversity and computing and information technology competency and general education degree requirements are included in your course selections. 

Terms I and II (28-33 total credit hours)

  • Arts and humanities-3 cr. (gen. ed. requirement)
  • HEA-100
  • Mathematics - 3-4 cr. (gen. ed. requirement)
  • ENG-111-112 - 3 cr. each, or ENG-115-116 - for non-native speakers-3 cr. each, or ENG-121† - 3 cr.
  • BIO-101 - 4 cr.(lecture & lab)
  • COM-111 -3cr., or COM-116 for Non-Native Speakers, 3 cr.
  • HEA-150 - 3 cr.
  • Science/mathematics**- 3 cr.(gen. ed. requirement)

Terms III and IV (30-31 total credit hours)

†Successful completion of ENG 121 fully satisfies the college English composition general education requirement. Students who take ENG 121 and not ENG 111 and 112 may need to take an additional elective course to ensure that they complete a minimum of 60 credits, which are required for the award of an associate degree. These credit hours must be chosen with the approval of the department chair or program coordinator.
