"I love this school. I love everything about it—the people, the teachers, and the campus."
Hana, who would typically be a senior in a traditional high school this year, just completed her second semester at AACC as a theater major. She comes from a home-schooled family of six children, who, like Hana, have taken their talents to the stage.
Full of energy and very mature for her age, Hana spends most of her time outside of the classroom singing, dancing and acting. Lately, this vibrant redhead has been playing the part of the luscious Lola in 2nd Star Productions’ Damn Yankees, which is scheduled to run at the Bowie Playhouse through June 26. Hana was in AACC’s production of Pippin last fall and will perform in Children of Eden for the Talent Machine Company in August. She also recently auditioned for 2nd Star Productions’ Oliver!
Needless to say, this rising star is very active, talented, and confident. But she wasn’t always so outgoing. She was quite shy when she was young; but now with about 8 years of theater experience under her belt, she has kissed her stage fright goodbye.
Hana says that AACC keeps her focused; and even though, taking classes at the college is different from home schooling, she has transitioned easily.
“The teachers and the people around me have helped me to adjust,” said Hana. “I love this school. I love everything about it—the people, the teachers, and the campus—and I think you can learn a lot here. I was scared at first because I was younger [than the other students], but there is such a positive atmosphere at AACC. There is also diversity in the students so you hear a lot of different opinions in class.”
In addition to pursuing her theater career, Hana plans on spending her summer relaxing and working on getting her GED. With her spirited personality, Hana hopes to be on Broadway and the big screen one day. You just might want to get her autograph now!
