Meet Waleska Quiles, Senior at UM

“AACC offered a distance learning class that fit my needs perfectly.”

Waleska is a sociology and criminal justice major at the University of Maryland College Park.  She’s pursuing a five-year program that will award her with a master’s degree in quantitative analysis and equip her to meet her goal of becoming an analyst in behaviorial science working for a federal agency.  Her dream is to one day become a profiler.

Waleska says that AACC offered her exactly what she needed during the summer—flexibility.  She’s working full-time and loves to work out in the gym.  A distance learning class in applied sociology met her need for a great class with affordable tuition that easily fit into her busy schedule.

“I would tell anyone that the quality of the class that I took at Anne Arundel Community College stands up to the classes I take at UMCP.”  She added, “I think anyone can succeed at a distance learning class—you just have to have some discipline to get the work done, but that’s true for any class."

The experience was so positive for Waleska that she’s considering enrolling in other classes to transfer back.
