What is SharePoint?

SharePoint is a web application platform that combines traditionally disassociated applications such as: intranet, extranet, content and document management, personal cloud, enterprise social networking and searches, business intelligence, workflow management, web content management, and enterprise applications.  The number of both public and private sector organizations that have adopted this platform on some level is sizable and with the release of the latest 2013 version, as well as a shift towards cloud-based platforms and hybrid applications, many organizations face business problems that need solutions.  As a result, web/web application and/or software developers can advance and/or shift their careers by acquiring specialized skills to afford them the opportunity to secure the sought-after position of “SharePoint Developer.”  This program provides students with the SharePoint 2013 development skills that are in high demand today and prepares individuals in part for the exams required for the Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD): SharePoint Applications certification. According to InDeed, as of December 21, 2015 the average salary for a SharePoint Developer in the D.C. metro region is $117,000 per year.
