Technical Infrastructure

The AACC network consists of a mixture of many technologies to provide data, voice, and video services to our students, faculty and staff. We strive for simplicity through standardization, but at the same time realize the need to choose technologies that meet the college’s needs.

The Information Services department supports more than 2,500 clients, 90+ file/application servers, with operating systems that include Windows NT, Windows XP, Linux, AIX, and Windows 2000, both at the desktop and Windows 2000 server. These systems connect via an enterprise wide fiber optic gigabit Ethernet backbone and wireless LAN’s spanning 18 buildings with the help of routers, switches, hubs and remote access devices. Desktops are running at 100MB over the network.

Internet and Intranet services are provided via multiple T1 connections to our Internet service provider. AACC also supports five additional T1s for voice services. Video services include point-to-point video conferencing, Maryland Interactive Distance Learning Network (MIDLN) rooms, security systems, Comcast Cable re-broadcasting, and closed-circuit television via fiber optics, satellite, ISDN and traditional coaxial cable.
