Technical Infrastructure

The AACC network consists of a mixture of many technologies to provide data, voice, and video services to our students, faculty and staff. We strive for simplicity through standardization, but at the same time realize the need to choose technologies that meet the college’s needs.
  • The Information Services department supports more than 3,700 desktops running Windows XP and Windows 7.

  • We support over 150 file/application servers, with operating systems that include Windows 2003-2008 Server, Linux, Solaris and AIX. These systems connect via an enterprise wide fiber optic gigabit Ethernet backbone and wireless LANs spanning 25 buildings with the help of routers, switches, hubs and remote access devices. Desktops are running at 100Mb over the network.

  • Data and video infrastructure services are provided via 155Mb fiber to Arundel Mills and Glen Burnie Town Center from the Arnold Campus.

  • Internet services all originate at the Arnold campus and are provided via 500Mb fiber connectivity through UMATS (University of Maryland Academic Telecommunications System) and 25 Mb fiber to Comcast. In addition there is a 25Mb fiber connection to Comcast which provides limited redundancy in our Internet point of presence to the campus in the event that the UMATS connectivity goes down.
