
The Maryland Transfer Advantage Program is available to students at Anne Arundel Community College interested in completing a college education at the University of Maryland. The program is designed to ensure that AACC students are well-prepared for transfer and success upon matriculation to UM.
What are the advantages to an AACC student?
AACC students participating in the Maryland Transfer Advantage Program will have the following benefits:
- Advising that is targeted toward an interest in completion of a degree at UM.
- Invitations to special MTAP programs offered by UM.
- Opportunities to complete courses at UM while enrolled at AACC. After completing 15 credits at AACC, MTAP students receive a 25 percent course-tuition-scholarship for one UM course (offered at College Park or Shady Grove) per semester, not to exceed a total of nine credits. During semesters where AACC students enroll in a UM course, AACC students will have access to all student services at UM.
- Guaranteed admission to UM upon successful completion of the program.
Who should apply?
- High School students intending to complete a program at AACC and plan to transfer to UM.
- Students presently attending AACC who are considering a four-year degree and plan to transfer to UM.
- Students already admitted to UM are not eligible for the MTAP program.
How to apply?
- High School students may apply at the time of application to AACC. The student must first complete an AACC admission application and then an MTAP application and submit both forms to the AACC Admissions Office.
- Students who are currently matriculated at AACC must complete the MTAP application and submit the completed form to an advisor in Counseling Advising and Retention Services.
- Students who are transferring into AACC from another institution must complete the MTAP application and submit the completed form to an advisor in Counseling Advising and Retention Services.
How will students know if they are accepted into the program?
- UM will notify students regarding their participation in the program.
- Once accepted, students are expected to meet regularly with their AACC advisor and discuss courses taken at AACC and courses to be taken at UM.
What must a student do to take a course at University of Maryland?
- After the student has completed 15 credits at AACC, the student is eligible to enroll in one course per semester up to nine credits at UM. The student must also meet the early admissions requirements for entrance into UM which include completion of college level English and mathematics and a minimum GPA of 3.00.
- The student must make an appointment with an AACC adviser to choose an appropriate course.
- A Course Interest Survey is completed by the student and signed by an AACC advisor who submits it to UM.
- Application deadlines for taking a course at UM are found on the Course Interest Survey.
What must students do to complete the Maryland Transfer Advantage Program?
- Students must complete the Transfer Studies Certificate (30 Credits) with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA (including at least five general education courses, coursework that fulfills the UM Freshman English requirement, and a college-level mathematics course), OR complete an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or an Associate of Arts in Teaching, with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.
How do students transfer to UM after successful completion of the MTAP program?
- Students who have completed the MTAP program must complete a Transfer Admission Application.
- Once UM receives the Transfer Application, MTAP students who have successfully completed the program are guaranteed admission to UM. Note that the Maryland Transfer Advantage Program does not provide special consideration for Limited Enrollment Programs.
