Women's Institute - About Us

What We Offer:

Our Mission:

  • To offer programs that empower and enrich women in a comfortable and supportive classroom atmosphere
  • To educate the campus and the community about women's issues
  • To support women on campus and in the community
  • To serve as a resource on women's issues

Who We Are:

Dawn Poley Schulman, Program Developer

Dawn Poley Schulman has been with the Women's Institute for six years. She coordinates the program for the Women's Institute and in addition teaches art courses. A freelance artist specializing in watercolors and mosaics, she received her B.A. in art cum laude from the University of Maryland. She also has a graduate certificate in art therapy from Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Jean Hembry, Work-Study Student

Jean Hembry is a Human Services major. She plans to continue her education at Villa Julie or UM-BC and to work with domestic violence victims. She also works with mentally-challenged adults in a group house.
