Tyrese L. Coleman was a 2019 PEN Open Book Award finalist for her collection How to Sit, published by Mason Jar Press in 2018. Her forthcoming book, Spectacle, will be published by One World, an imprint of Penguin Random House. A writer, wife, mother, attorney and writing instructor, Tyrese occasionally teaches writing and English composition at American University. Her essays and stories have appeared in several publications, including The Washington Post Magazine, The Washingtonian Magazine, Parents Magazine, Literary Hub, The Rumpus and The Kenyon Review, and have been noted in Best American Essays and the Pushcart Prize Anthology. Tyrese received her Master’s in Writing degree from Johns Hopkins University and her Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland in College Park. She lives in the Washington, D.C. metro area, but is a country girl at heart.
