AACC Construction Informational Meeting May 14

May 10, 2018

Anne Arundel Community College invites the community to an informational meeting concerning plans for our new Health Sciences and Biology building. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Monday, May 14, in Florestano Building Room 101 on campus

College officials; the project’s architects, The Smith Group; and construction managers Whiting-Turner Construction Company, will provide a short presentation and hold a question-and-answer session.

Any noise and traffic issues are expected to be limited to the campus.

“We are presenting the broad scope of the project. At the moment, it’s even too early to know what the building is going to look like,” said Maury Chaput, executive director of Administrative Services. He said the next meeting AACC will host for the community will be in early 2019.

The 175,000-square-foot, four-story facility will support the School of Health Sciences as well as the Biology department. Academic and student space will include laboratories, a greenhouse, computer labs, classrooms, lounge areas, and study and meeting rooms.

The facility will be situated on a 4-acre site. Construction will require demolition of two buildings and the rerouting of the loop road. This project will pursue LEED® Silver certification, a rating on the environmental friendliness of the building from the U.S. Green Building Council. The $127 million project – part of the college's 10-year Facilities Master Plan – is estimated to be completed around August 2021.
