The Anne Arundel Community College Impact and Excellence Awards are designed to celebrate and honor the accomplishments and contributions of students, faculty and staff to the college community.
 
The Impact and Excellence Awards were held Thursday, April 24, at the Double Tree Hilton in Annapolis. 


Impact and Excellence Awards List

Below are brief descriptions of the awards for which students, faculty, and staff may be nominated.

Faculty and staff are eligible to win an award in the same category only once every three years. Students may not receive an award from the same award category in consecutive years.

This award recognizes a student who has helped create an equitable and respectful environment at AACC and in the broader community. To qualify, the recipients must have contributed to diversity and inclusion through one or more areas such as exemplary leadership, participation in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Anti-racism and Assessment trainings, outreach and volunteer efforts that promote Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Anti-racism and Assessment practices and principles. They must also exhibit behavior that illustrates commitment to inclusion and respect of persons within the institution who are members of traditionally underrepresented, underserved and diverse groups.

This award recognizes staff who have contributed to students’ success “above and beyond” the call of duty by coaching, mentoring or facilitating workshops during the academic year.

This award recognizes the promotion of and engagement in civic activities within the AACC community by an AACC student(s).

This award recognizes the promotion of and engagement in civic activities within the AACC community by an AACC faculty or staff member.

This award recognizes a community organization that is aligned with the mission of AACC and has demonstrated the institution's values by supporting student success.

This award recognizes two faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in teaching in an online or in-person environment. The faculty member you nominate must demonstrate one or more of the following qualifications:

  • Provides opportunities for student-student, student-content and student-instructor communications
  • Demonstrates knowledge, interest and enthusiasm in the subject
  • Demonstrates knowledge of best online teaching and learning practices (e.g., course design, effective teaching strategies)
  • Presents subject in an organized manner and clearly defines the student's responsibilities in the course
  • Provides adequate and practical examples or illustrations of the subject
  • Engages students to become active learners
  • Demonstrates effective use of technology to assist the learning process
  • Challenges students to increase their skills and knowledge and to apply these to real world applications
  • Creates a sense of “community” in the online course
  • Contributes to the college’s educational, social and cultural life as well as service to the community
  • Is responsive, fair, personable and responsible with students
  • Possesses other exemplary attributes

This award recognizes students who demonstrate trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, compassion and good citizenship – all attributes that shape who we are as people and affect our interactions in school, family, community and life.

This award recognizes a staff or faculty member each year that challenged students to increase their skills and knowledge and to apply these to real-world situations. This award recipient has supported students in their academic and personal success. The awardee is a role model, inspires leadership in others, facilitates learning in and out of the classroom and positively impacts the AACC community.

This award recognizes an advisor from a club or organization who has excelled in leading and advising the club. The recipient of this award has demonstrated enthusiasm for their organization. The advisor of the year clearly represents the organization's goals and helps students understand their role and responsibilities within their club. The recipient challenges students to increase their skills and become future leaders and contributes to the college’s educational, social and cultural life.

This award recognizes a club member’s outstanding service to the club over the past year. The recipient of this award showed knowledge, interest and enthusiasm for their club; regularly attended and actively participated in meetings; and demonstrated leadership by supporting fellow club members and contributing ideas and efforts to conducting the goals of the club.

This award recognizes the club that clearly demonstrates their objectives and purpose. The club of the year demonstrates the desire to create a positive environment for all members of their club and the AACC student body. Not only is the overarching goal of the club to ensure that any member of the student body feels welcomed and included, but each member is dedicated to helping the club accomplish their goals.
