Section Info: Omalley Senior Center | Scandinavian and Finnish Composers | This course presents the music of Scandinavian and Finnish composers including Edvard Grieg, Jean Sibelius, Aulis Sallinen, Einojohani Rautavaara, Carl Nielsen, Kari Tikka, Rued Langgaard, Kaija Saariaho, and others. The music of Iceland will also be included. Their works include concertos, orchestral music, and operas. Throughout the course there will be both audio and video presentations representing the finest works of these varied composers.

Students will study the rise of native composition with Mikhail Glinka, the nationalist movement of the "Mighty Fistful," and the blending of folk elements with Romanticism.
