Section Info: Pasadena Senior Center | Cultural Infl. America Film- Film Noir | This classic film genre that was given its name by French movie critics after World War II. It began with film adaptations of "hardboiled" crime thrillers that were written from the 1920s onward by novelists like Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, and James M. Cain. Tough-as-nails detectives probe the murky depths of the human soul, reckoning with villains - some of them "black widow" female killers - who teach us to "watch our backs" as we make our way through a world that can be sinister beyond belief.
