Class starts with a warm up and brief stretch followed by 30 minutes of low impact aerobics. Instruction focuses on hand tools only-knives and gouges-with no power tools used. Students learn tool selection, basic knife cuts, sharpening, wood selection, pattern application, pyrography, and painting. Because tools are extremely sharp, safety and basic first aid is emphasized. A Kevlar carving glove and leather thumb guard are required.
